Her whole brain — every message, fact and dream — is encrypted at rest with AES-256; a stolen copy of the database is unreadable without your key, which lives in your OS keyring. And you don't have to take our word for it: pull your network cable and she keeps working. Privacy you can test yourself, not promises you have to trust.

Her memory and identity live above any model, as your own data — so she remembers across years and across every model swap. She greets you already knowing you. And because she's yours, you can export her entire brain to a single Soul File: back her up, move her to a new machine, keep her forever.

Not because we say it's safe — because of where it runs. There's no account to make, no server to send a child's homework to, and no company on the other end learning who they are. A parent sets the rules with a PIN; everything else stays on the machine in your house.
A serial, night after night — she keeps the whole thing straight: who's who, what happened, where you stopped. Each character gets its own voice, and for a child she winds down into a sleepy read that slows to a near-whisper by the last page. Chapters can be illustrated, on your machine.

Yes — and you don't have to take our word for it. She's local by default and encrypted at rest; there's no account and no server, so there's nothing to leak. Every action she takes is written to a tamper-evident audit log you can read line by line. The real test: disconnect from the internet and she keeps working. Privacy you can check, not privacy you have to trust.
Not today — the source is kept private for now (it may open up down the road). But you don't need to read the code to verify her privacy, and that's the point: you can test it. She runs with no account and no server, so block her at your firewall — or just unplug — and everything except opt-in live mode keeps working. Every action is in an audit log you can inspect. A reasonably modern computer and a local model runner — Ollama is the easy default and she'll set it up with you, or point her at llama.cpp, LM Studio, vLLM or anything else speaking the OpenAI API. No GPU required for the smaller models; more RAM/VRAM lets her think with bigger ones.

She backs her own brain up automatically every day (keeping the last seven), and you can export the whole of her — memory, identity, history — to a single Soul File any time. Restore it on a new machine and she picks up where you left off, already knowing you. Backups keep your encryption; the Soul File is your portable copy.
Because those backups stay encrypted, they need your key — so EMMA shows you a recovery key when encryption goes on and keeps asking until you've saved it somewhere off the machine. Write it down once and a wiped keyring, a new laptop or a fresh install is a five-minute restore rather than a loss.

Not for the EMMA you bought. EMMA 1.x is yours forever — every 1.x update included, and security fixes guaranteed for at least two years beyond any future major version. Her licence is checked on your own machine with no server involved, so there is no mechanism by which we could switch her off, expire her, or take features away. If we disappeared tomorrow, your EMMA would keep working.
If an EMMA 2 ever ships, it would be a separate purchase — about half price for existing owners, and free if you bought within the previous 12 months. Your EMMA 1 would carry on exactly as it is: no nag screens, nothing removed. We'd rather tell you that now than have you find out later. It's all in the licence.
